FOLKLORE OF LONESOME
Two thousand pounds. Twenty years of life. One legendary Longhorn. Harris Ranch's Lonesome now stands mounted at the Denton County Brewing Company - on a handshake lease of $1.00 per year, Mr. Harris notes with a grin that they're three years behind on payments. DCBC named a craft beer in his honor.
The deal? Mr. Harris drinks for free.
- so long as it's a LONESOME
"If you tell him a funny joke, he'll wiggle his left
ear...but it will take you about 3 beers to notice."
- Mr. Robert Harris
Honoring the Past,
Shaping the Future:
The Evolution of Harris Ranch
For eighty years, the land known as Harris Ranch has been a place of purpose. Once alive with the movement of Longhorn cattle and the steady rhythm of ranch life, this land has long represented endurance, connection, and pride in honest work.
At the heart of its story is the ranch’s brand—a “Triple O” mark that Mr. Harris still wears proudly on his hat. The symbol’s origins trace back to the Odd Fellows (IOOF) Lodge No. 82 in Denton, Texas, a fraternal organization devoted to caring for orphans, widows, and those in need. Mr. Harris’ father was a member, and from the Odd Fellows’ enduring principles of Friendship, Love, and Truth, the “Triple O” brand was born.
Those three circles came to represent more than cattle—they became a symbol of the Harris family’s values: heritage, land, and family. Each circle stands strong on its own, but the true strength lies in their connection—a reflection of how generations of the Harris family built their lives and livelihoods together.
Today, that same spirit of connection guides a new chapter. The ground that once raised proud herds of Texas Longhorns will now cultivate a new kind of growth—one rooted not in livestock, but in vision, opportunity, and purpose.
As Harris Ranch evolves into a business park, its legacy remains firmly in place. The values that shaped the land—stewardship, integrity, and vision—continue to define what’s next. Here, where cattle once grazed under open skies, new ventures will take root. The soil that supported generations of ranchers now supports a future built on collaboration and possibility.
The Triple O endures as a symbol of continuity—where the heritage of the past meets the promise of tomorrow. It reminds us that while the land’s purpose may change, its spirit does not.
Harris Ranch is not closing its story; it’s expanding it—turning a legacy of hard work and harmony with the land into a foundation for the next generation of opportunity.
